I mean, all they're saying is "most sites should consider HTTP the most important service they provide", since they aren't also claiming one should stop using per-service hostnames/aliases such as news., mail., or ftp.
Yep. I prefer no-www, but as long as one redirects to the other, it doesn't really matter which one is the "normative". 301 for the win, baby.
