Feels like a weird shrug and giving up for an organization where dealing with abuse is the name of the game ...
What if Google didn't listen?
Conversely, it's possible that Google has been ignoring external links on Wikipedia the whole time.

This stinks. Wikipedia is important to the page rank of one of my sites, and now that Wikipedia is devaluing the link it has going to me, it hurts the authority my site has.
