PayPal Plans to Ban Unsafe Browsers. At first I thought they were going to encourage real anti-phishing features in browsers, which would be a big win for OpenID... but it turns out they’re just requiring EV SSL certificates which have been proven not to actually work.

  1. I don't really care whether they require pink flying chipmunks or not as long as this means Internet Explorer 6's market share is going to drop as a result of it.

  2. I take issue with the “cars without seatbelts” quote from the Paypal guy. Paypal’s suggested course of action is more like a city turning away drivers of cars that don’t have airbags installed.

  3. One particular UI presentation of EV (IEs) has been shown not to work by one study. That's not the same as "EV has been proven not to work".

You might think that there's no conceivable UI presentation that could work - but you need to argue that, not just assert it.

Asbjørn Ulsberg, yes I think IE 6's market share will drop surely with this paypal's new plan. It's really unsafe.
